Who is SPNLA and why do we exist?
The Student Parliament at NLA University College is the students' voice! 💚
We work actively to make sure students are heard, taken seriously, and can help shape their everyday student life. Through student democracy, we raise issues that matter to students and follow them up throughout the academic year. We work for a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment across the campuses (Sandviken, Kalfaret, Gimlekollen, Staffeldts, Stavanger).
The Student Parliament is led by an executive committee of four students: president, political vice president, organisational vice president, and communications officer. Together, we in SPNLA work to protect students' interests and act as a link between the students and the management at NLA.

Student democracy at NLA University College works continuously to promote and strengthen our shared democratic platforms and representative points of contact, so you can have a say and influence issues that affect you and your time as an NLA student. We aim to provide a strong and reliable platform for student democracy where NLA students' opinions, participation in decision-making, and contributions to meaningful discussions are heard. Our goal is to create a collaborative and inclusive environment where NLA students can actively help shape their student journey and experience.

News
First step towards student support payments over 12 months!
Over the weekend of 27 February to 1 March, our representative attended a national board meeting of the National Union of Students in Norway (NSO). Andreas Hellesøy proposed giving students the option of receiving student support spread over 12 months, in addition to the usual 11-month arrangement. The proposal was included in the national board's recommendation for the Welfare Policy Platform, which NSO will vote on at its national conference on 10–12 April. This proposal is based on existing SPNLA policy, which Andreas brought into national student politics. Its acceptance here is the first step towards a change. If the national conference adopts it in April, it will become NSO policy and something NSO will work towards in its national political work, especially with the Norwegian Parliament. Hooray!
Another proposal based on SPNLA policy was to develop a system of pay for student placements, similar to the current system of apprentice pay for students in vocational upper secondary education. There was already a proposal to introduce a grant for students during longer placement periods, but we believe it is better to avoid placing an unnecessary financial burden on the state, as placement students are a resource for their placement providers. After some debate and a vote in the national board, the proposal was unfortunately rejected and was not included in the board's recommendation to the national conference.

Get to Know Each Other Days in Oslo!
This week, we held Get to Know Each Other Day at NLA Oslo – and what a day it was!
Campus was full of life, laughter, and new connections as students from different programmes came together to build friendships, get to know each other, and discover everything happening in our student community.
The day included stands from various student associations, a SiO course on how to start your own association, and, of course, pizza and a great atmosphere at U1. Many students came forward with new ideas and joint projects – a clear sign that student engagement at NLA Oslo is really growing.
Get to Know Each Other Day also marked the start of our work to strengthen student life and the community on campus. The Student Parliament wants to help create an inclusive and lively environment where everyone feels welcome – whether you want to get involved academically, socially, or simply get to know more people.
